Margot Robbie (Suicide Squad) will take on the title role in Marian which Sony is bringing to the big screen Deadline first reported the news, describing the action adventure title as Game of Thrones meets Braveheart. Producers are Donald De Line and Amy Pascal alongside Robbie’s LuckyChap Entertainment and Romark Entertainment.
Marian is based on the character of Lady Marian from the classic Robin Hood tale. Written by Pete Barry in his feature film screenwriting debut, the story follows Marian picking up Robin Hood’s cause after he dies before her eyes. She becomes a leader of the people and a legend in her own right.
Robbie is currently filming I, Tonya, about notorious figure skater Tonya Harding. She is slated to appear in Gotham City Sirens for Warner Bros, an all-female DC villains movie which further explores her Suicide Squad character. Other future projects include Peter Rabbit, a live-action CGI hybrid feature film from Sony/Columbia, and a new Winnie the Pooh film, as yet untitled, from Fox Searchlight.
